January 4 and 5
 6:00-8:00
Community Center Basement, Lanesboro

Hi! Thanks for your interest in auditioning in "Forces of Light: One Acts by David Ives". Lanesboro Community Theater is pleased to be presenting six one acts by David Ives. Ives is best known for writing comic one-act plays, a reputation which resulted in the New York Times referring to him as the "maestro of the short form".

We will be presenting:
PHILIP GLASS BUYS A LOAF OF BREAD directed by Jane Peck
SURE THING directed by Pete Keith
DEGAS C'EST MOI directed by Sara Baskett
DR. FRITZ directed by Ruth Furan
TIME FLIES directed by Brent Anderson
LIVES OF THE SAINTS directed by Val Tindall

The directors are looking for men and women (ages 18+) for the many parts in these comedies. Auditions will consist of readings from the script - no preparations are needed.  Four performances: February 25, 26, 27 in the evenings and February 28 matinee.

For more audition information, click on the "Forces of Light" Audition Info tab at right.

Mummers Wanted!

Call for mumming team actors and/or dancers for Nov. 28 and beyond!

Did you get to see the mummers during last year’s holiday season? This old British winter traditional rhymed drama is done by folks in villages all over the British Isles. Each village  has their own version. Ours was combined with Morris sword/stick dance last year, thanks to Tom Barnes' morris dance experience. Jane Peck was on a mumming team for 20 years in Mpls. Loved it!

We will rehearse twice before our first street performance which is Saturday, Nov. 28 , 11-1 pm, Winter Windows in Lanesboro. We will go door to door a couple of nights during the holiday season in Lanesboro, or other towns if the group decides. We will decide rehearsals and performances together.
Maybe rehearsal Sunday sometime and Tuesday evening?

Contact Jane Peck, ASAP, revels @janepeck.com  or 612-823-0776

2016 Season Announcement!

We are so excited about our 2016 season! We hope you can join us behind the scenes, on stage, or in the audience.

Winter: We will be doing a series of Short Plays and we are looking for people who would like to dip their toe into the water and give directing a try. The plays would be short and you would have support to let you know what directing is all about. We need about 6 directors. If you are interested, please reply to this email very soon. We'll be reading through some plays in the next week or two. Give it a try! You'll be glad you did!
Summer: We will be doing a musical in the summer. For all of our shows we will need people to find props, costumes, sewing, builders, graphic designers, stage managers, people to run the spotlight, lights, sound, producers, intermission, etc... Please let us know if you would like to get involved with LCT by replying to this email. Thanks!

Fall: We'll be doing the Silent Movies in September again and will be looking for people to become new movie makers! All training provided for this great skill free of charge. It's a lot of fun! Reply to this email if interested.

Silent Movie Thank You!

The Silent Movies in the Park After Dark 2015 was a success! You can view some photos HERE. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to see the movies, to everyone who made movies, to everyone who helped set up for the movies and to everyone who was in the movies!! DVDs are for sale at the arts center. THANK YOU!!
We plan on having a new crop of movie makers again next year. Maybe you? Reply to this email if you are interested in making a movie.

LCT Player Highlight - Olivia Obritsch

Olivia Obristch is a wonder! She and her sister, Sara, and her mom, Julie, have been involved in several plays with us including Leaving Iowa, Fiddler on the Roof and Mary Poppins. In Poppins, Olivia also choreographed a song. Not only that, she was one of our movie makers for the Silent Movies this year. We are so proud that this teenager has stepped forward into these leadership roles and done such an outstanding job with them! Here she is getting interviewed about the silent movies by the PBS arts and culture program "Off 90". Thanks, Olivia!

Two Actors Wanted (paid positions)

TWO ACTORS WANTED (paid positions): The Minnesota Shorts Play Festival has been growing in popularity since 2009. Playwrights throughout the state and across the nation enter the competition, hoping their short play will be chosen out of the hundreds submitted for a place in the festival. For the third year in a row, a play written by Ruth Furan was chosen to compete. Two years ago her play "Wiener Dog Worries" received the "Best of the Fest" award and last year, "The Dog Park" came in second. She hopes to be able to continue this winning trend by contending strongly this year with her piece, "Food for Thought." Ruth is looking for two actors who would love to join in the competition by taking a part in the production that will play in Mankato either September 10th or 11th in the evening. The characters are "Cosmo" an evil alien leader (think Anthony Hopkins, Silence of the Lambs type character) and "Jack" the Captain of an intergalactic vessel (Jack could also be "Jackie" played by a female). Each player will need to commit to a few weeks of rehearsals- as well as working together with Ruth to design a minimal set, costumes and props for the competition. A $100 stipend is awarded to all plays that contend and Ruth will give each actor half of the stipend for participating. A $100 prize is awarded to "Best of the Fest" winners and if "Food for Thought" would win, Ruth would also give each of the actors half of that prize because of their total awesomeness. Let's bring Lanesboro to Mankato and show them how it's done! Contact Ruth if you are interested, or email bkeithdesigns@yahoo.com and she will pass the message on. Thank you!

Lanesboro Community Theater goes to the MACT festival!

Last weekend we brought a cutting of "Almost, Maine" to the Minnesota Association of Community Theaters Festival in Dassel-Cokato. It was our first time participating. In addition to our performance, we were able to take workshops and watch other theaters from around the state do their shows. On Sunday morning there was an awards brunch. We were so pleased to receive a 3rd place plaque for our show! Not only that, two of our "duos" took home excellence in acting awards. Congratulations to the original cast, the festival cast, and the acting award winners Blake Norby and Barbara Benson Keith and also Ryan Lee and Pete Keith!
