Announcing the Cast of THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB!

We are excited to reveal the cast for our Winter play, The Dixie Swim Club:

Sheree:  Michelle Rowley

Lexie:  Val Tindall

Dinah:  Sandy Webb

Vernadette:  Bonnie Hulsing

Jeri Neal:  Shawn Gorder

From the Director: "Everyone did such marvelous work during the auditions. There was such a wonderful openness and freedom displayed in the theater games and such a range of character readings. This was a very difficult casting because all of the auditioners showed an adept ability to play two or more characters! This is a very happy dilemma for a director to have!"
Congratulations to all!

AUDITIONS!!

December 16

6 pm - 8 pm

Discovery Faith Community, Lanesboro

Show Dates:

February 21-23

February 28, 29 & March 1

Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships.  The Dixie Swim Club focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years.  As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them.  And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives, these friends, proving the enduring power of “teamwork,” rally ‘round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction.  A hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever.

We’re looking for 5 Adult women to play an age range from 40s to 70s.  Ability to speak with a  Southern accent is desirable.  No preparation is needed, but please come prepared for a brief session of theater games.  Please bring your calendars to note any conflicts.  If you can’t make the auditions, please contact the director at dianajdlaw@gmail.com to schedule another time.  Rehearsals start in mid-January.  See below for cast list and downloadable audition form.  Copies of the Audition form will also be available at the audition.

Cast List

Sheree: The spunky team captain desperately trying to maintain her organized and “perfect” life and continues to be the group’s leader.

Dinah: The wisecracking overachiever and a career dynamo.  But her victories in the courtroom are in stark contrast to the frustrations of her personal life.

Lexie: Pampered and outspoken, she is the epitome of the Southern Belle.  She enjoys being married—over and over again—and is determined to hold onto her youth by any means possible.

Vernadette: Self-deprecating and ascerbic, she is acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life and has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos.

Jeri Neal: Sweet and eager to please, this former nun is capable of a few surprises of her own.

For all of these roles, the ability to speak with a Southern accent is strongly encouraged.  The ability to play a variety of ages through physicality and movement is desirable as is the willingness to wear makeup.

Lanesboro Community Mural Brainstorming Meeting

Our friends at Lanesboro Arts and Commonweal Theatre invite you to participate in a Community Brainstorming Session for a “Theatre District” mural on the south side of Manion Law Firm. The idea generating meeting will take place at the Commonweal Theatre on Wednesday, May 1 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The mural is designed to engage volunteers of all ages in the brainstorming and creation process as well as, create a sense of community pride, and build collaborative efforts to beautify the community.
Lanesboro Arts and Commonweal Theatre have commissioned artist Erik Pearson to take the community’s ideas created during the May 1 meeting and make a cohesive design. That design will then be presented to Lanesboro Heritage Preservation Commission, the Lanesboro Planning and Zoning Commission and other community stakeholders. The organizations are aiming for Pearson and community members to collaboratively paint and create the mural sometime during the summer of 2019.
If you are interested but cannot attend the meeting, please send ideas for the mural to Kara Maloney at Lanesboro Arts. These can be written ideas or drawings. Come be part of this exciting downtown revitalization project!

Announcing Our Spring Production!

Spring 2019:  ALICE @ WONDERLAND by Jonathan Yukich, in collaboration with Lanesboro Public Schools

Winner of the Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest, this retelling of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale will feature a cast solely of Lanesboro Elementary School students!

What would happen if a 21st century Alice collided with Lewis Carroll’s legendary Wonderland?  This modern retelling of the classic children’s story has all of the characters you know and love, including the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts.  The story is laid out in traditional style, except that Alice is distinctly contemporary, complete with cell phone in hand.  Full of references to text messaging and social media, the play imagines a present-day Alice encountering the Wonderland so many of us treasure.  A sharply told, crisply paced ride, this quality adaptation has been praised for its humor, modern style and appeal to both children and adults.

Performances are Saturday, May 4, at 7pm and Sunday, May 5, at 1pm at the St. Mane Theater in Lanesboro.
